FIVE FOR FRIDAY

Mysterious Euro House producer Christophe Hoeffel is a busy guy. Running his own label Work It Baby, releasing countless tunes as Kris Menace, Menace & Adam, as well as teaming up with Fred Falke and Alex Braxe.
Opening April 20th, political horror satire “The Tripper” will mark David Arquette’s directorial debut, and it sounds like fun foray back into 80’s slasher pics.
The film follows a group of twenty-something friends as they head into the woods for a weekend outdoor music festival, whereupon they are stalked by a hippie hating, axe wielding maniac wearing a Ronald Reagan mask, who is bent on finishing what he started years ago.
Starring Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Paul Ruebens (Pee Wee Herman), Jason Mewes (Jay minus Silent Bob), the stunning Jamie King (Sin City), and Arquette himself.
mp3: primal scream - kill all hippies. (buy).
I first heard about U-Tern from the always reliable Analog Giant. This remix of the Kelis track “Trilogy” by emerging Canadian DJ/Producer U-Tern has been around a while, but if you haven’t got it, it’s recommended.
Watch out for U-Terns new record “The Cookie Jar – Volume 1” dropping sometime soon.
mp3: kelis - trilogy (u-terns synth rock mix).
There’s some great U-Tern mixes you can download from the links below.
These guys make short work of New York rush hour.
Funkadelic released their self titled uplifting debut in 1970 and if you haven’t got it, check it out. First song on the album, the 9 minute groover “Mommy, What’s A Funkadelic?” was their introduction to us all, in which George Clinton tells us he went to New York and got his hair laid, lucky guy (?).
Due for a worldwide release on May 4th, the third installment of the Spiderman series sees Sam Raimi taking directorial duties again. Familiar faces return in a cast that includes Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Rosemary Harris and J. K. Simmons.
The plot basics are that our hero Peter Parker has finally found the balance between his love for M.J and his responsibilities as Spider-Man. New York is coming round to appreciating his alter -ego’s work, and Parker is in the running for a top job at the Daily Bugle.
Life seems peachy, but it’s all about to unravel. Peter discovers a mysterious black substance which has made his suit jet black, it enhances his powers and makes his personality darker and more vengeful, which he has some fun with, but struggles to control.
He starts to neglect those closest to him and urges best friend Harry Osborn to take up his late father’s mantle as The New Goblin. Peter must now decide between being the strong-willed, compassionate hero he once was or the new dark-minded villain that he is becoming.
Not only must he overcome his personal demons and The New Goblin, there’s two new villains on the scene in the shape of Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), who as escaped prisoner Flint Marko (he has connections to Parkers uncle Ben’s murder) has an accident with displaced molecules on a beach, which enables him to change his body into any shape of sand he see’s fit (this guy could bring the world down by getting into everybodies swimwear) and the formidable Venom, Parkers rival at the bugle, photographer Eddie Brock (Topher Grace), who’s also been more than affected by the black substance.
It’s looks like spidey’s got his hands full and the film looks to be more of a darker tale than the two previous films, with the villains shaping up to be the best yet.
Some late night, moody chillin’ for you, if you like that sort of thing. The Junior Boys remix is highly recommended.
mp3: million miles - agoria ft. neneh cherry. (buy).
mp3: into u - richard x ft. jarvis cocker. (buy).
mp3: surfing on a rocket (juan maclean mix) - air. (buy).
mp3: fumbling towards ecstasy (junior boys mix) - sarah mclachlan. (buy).
First coming to prominence back in ‘98 with their eponymous debut, the writing was on the wall when DJ Cut Chemist left, and last years fourth album “Feedback” generally got a poor response. It’s also a known fact that Chali 2NA has been after going solo for a while - good luck Mr. Monotone.
Their positive message will be missed, but it doesn’t sound like they’ll miss each other.
