BMORE HIPSTER

30 04 2008

Cop some DLake club action for your midweek with some strong originals and remixes featuring Curtis Vodka and Bird Peterson. The Baltimore/NY producer’s latest DJ Mix ‘Bmore of a Hipster v1.0 the Mixtape’ won the NYC Village Voice’s ‘DJ Spin-Off, Best DJ of NYC’ contest and landed him a DJ Set at the Ultra Festival in Miami for WMC 2008.

With the release of his first club-party-dance EP DLake is pushing the ‘Bmore Club’ sound to the next level and from it here’s the single ‘Dance All Night’, plus a remix of Aussie Singer Gotye’s ‘Heart’s a Mess’ which has won him an Australian Grammy. These are just tasters but you can pick up the whole thing for free here, show some love.

mp3: dlake - dance all night feat. symbol & demetrius.
mp3: gotye - hearts a mess (dlake remix).

GET FAMILIAR

30 04 2008

This track features the much under-utilised whistle and is being spread around by way of an introduction to the first release through Name Ribbon Music. ’Get Familiar’ is an excellent new Cobra Krames mix that’s hosted by Baltimore’s Rye Rye and you’ll be able to pick it up on a good looking 256MB custom flash drive that doubles up as a bottle opener. Only 350 will be made available exclusively at Name Ribbon boutique stores worldwide and you can get more information, plus a sampler here.

mp3: cobra krames ft. rye rye - get familiar (start the violence! remix).

DEAD SEXY

29 04 2008

Something new from Cansei de Ser Sexy who’ve made this available for free at their new look website. The band’s bass player recently quit claiming, among other things, that she didn’t want to leave a carbon footprint from touring, which is a very ‘now’ excuse if it’s to be taken seriously. Anyway, this is from their upcoming long player ‘Donkey‘ and it sounds a bit like The Pixies, which is no bad thing.

mp3: css - rat is dead (rage).

NEW VAN SHE

29 04 2008

The Lorin Askil directed vid of the new single ‘Strangers’ from Van She is tres cool. The band is described by their label Modular as ‘post-disco, brain-illuminating, neo-dance pop’, which is spot on. From their upcoming album ‘V’ due out in August.

JAMES PANTS MIX

29 04 2008

We’ve previously wrote about new Stones Throw artist James Pants and his debut album ‘Welcome’ is just about to drop. He’s apparently holed up in the woods north of Washington at the moment from where he’s just done the latest Stones Throw Podcast.

WE AT THE DISCO

29 04 2008

Here’s a sleazy new vocal joint from Denver’s Kamtin M. aka solo electro/disco-house/punk artist THE CHAIN GANG OF 1974.  ’I Wish Daft Punk Was Playing At My House’ will appear on his upcoming full length record entitled ‘Mad Paranoid’ which he’s currently recording with producer Christophe Eagleton aka Yours Truly.

mp3: the chaingang of 1974 - i wish daft punk was playing at my house.

DRIVIN REMIX

28 04 2008

The Kidz In The Hall track ‘Drivin Down The Block’ is getting some big love at the moment so, thanks to Matt at MAC Media, it’s probably a good time to drop this remix that features Pusha T from The Clipse, Bun B and The Cool Kids.

mp3: kidz in the hall - drivin down the block (remix).

RUMBLE JUNGLE LIFE

28 04 2008

So King Kong the giant gorilla loves blondes but has unrealistic expectations when it comes to relationships. However the reggae artist King Kong gets toasty when Swedish producers Niceness and Mastah L, aka Jamtech Foundation, get busy with his rootsy number and turn it into some house goodness. This was previously on Discobelle but Nils Niceness dropped a line saying we could push it if we liked so here it is.

mp3: jamtech foundation -  rumble jumble life

FLUFFTRONIX

28 04 2008

These two recently dropped into the mailbox from Bloomington, Indiana dj and producer Flufftronix. We don’t need much encouragement to post any version of the infamous Dead Prez track so here’s a low-q version of his bassy refix, plus a Jaws-like original that you can all play down the beach.

Flufftronix also runs a booking/promo company called Rad Summer and they’ve just held a five day event in Indiana called Rad 5 which had performances from the likes of Totally Michael, Flosstradamus, DJ Pumpkin Patch and himself. They’re looking to turn Rad Summer into a label so show some support.

mp3: flufftronix - shark attack (ruff cut).
mp3: dead prez - bigger than hip hop (flufftronix ghetto house refix).

BEASTIES REMIX

27 04 2008

More from the Mexico City connection, specifically a nicely chilled remix of The Beasties ode to their home town by Papo Pepo from artist collective Le Touch. In some Beastie-related news check out the site for the forthcoming Adam Yauch produced and directed Basketball movie ‘Gunnin For That #1 Spot’.

mp3: beastie boys - an open letter to nyc (papo pepo remix).

SOCIAL PARADISE

27 04 2008

It’s a mystery why the smooth stylings of Hail Social hasn’t blown up in a massive way considering the Philladelphia four piece make some of the sexiest strung-out sounds you’re likely to come across. Their latest Ep entitled ‘No Paradise’ dropped a little while ago, far too long ago for this post to be considered hip in fast moving blogville, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that it’s stuffed full of timeless disco tinged indie-soul.

Here’s the title track from the ep plus a remix by Weird Tapes aka Dayve Hawk from the band, and you can pick up what you need to make your life better here.

mp3: hail social - no paradise.
mp3: hail social - no paradise (weird tapes edit).

IT FACTOR

26 04 2008

Toronto based urban electro duo Candy Coated Killahz aka Tosha Dash and Anomali are the sort of act blogs were invented for, and Tosha dropped a great e-mail recently informing us that their album ‘It Factor’ gets a release party on May 8th at Wrong Bar.

The album combines all the good stuff from hip hop, bouncy electro-pop, and dance anthems, with a little throwback nod to the eighties, and their sound has been compared to Gwen Stefani, Dragonette, Kelis, Outkast and M.I.A. Here’s the debut single, plus an ode to hard partying.

mp3: candy coated killahz - playboy.
mp3: candy coated killahz - i can’t stop.
